Project-Based Learning

Teaching Strategy

Students do well when there is some type of gamification technology, hands on activity, movement, and/or arts and crafts. Here the students were able to build a prototype for a client that wanted a specific tool to help them with their daily life. Students use mind-maps, blueprints, and written out descriptions before they could build the finished product. This brought out the creativity and imagination students had in them.

    Teaching Strategy

W.I.C.O.R. is a strategy that is used in our classroom. We incorporate Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading to accomplish our learning goals.

    Engaging with Phonics!

    EL Strategy

Repetition is necessary when students first begin learning English. Here we are singing, collaborating, and choral reading the letter sounds together as a warm-up for the day. This will enhance multimedia engagement for English Language Learners.

    Google Keep

This a wonderful way to enhance your organization as a teacher. Make sure to check out the collaborator feature.

    Google Meet

Meet virtually at any time. It is a good alternate for platforms such as Zoom and/or teams.

    Google Alert

This way the research can come to you.

Grow your professionalism with a newsletter!

Example Monthly Newsletter as an ESL Teacher

This can be shared with parents, teachers, and administrators to show what you are doing in the classroom academically, share student of the month, share achievements, notices, support, and/or student work.

Fighting against the silent period in the early years of being an ESL student

Multilingual students adapting to a new environment and language will tend to become invisible in the classroom. It typically starts when children realize that their home language is not understood at school and their second language skills are insufficient or absent.

    They then stop speaking completely

in that setting. This is called Selective mutism.

    Resources for Students!

    Clips

This is a tool that is used in class to help students create and collaborate in the classroom. Through this app students are able to piece together clips to make their very own short film/movie. Here is a video that I created to showcase my school Alex Green Design Technology Magnet school. ---->
